When your asphalt is worn but structurally sound, resurfacing restores it for a fraction of the cost of full reconstruction. Overlays, milling, and basecourse replacement by A&E Contracting & Pumping Ltd.
The right approach depends on the condition of your existing asphalt
A new layer of asphalt (25–40mm) applied directly over the existing surface. Best when the underlying pavement is structurally sound but the surface is worn, oxidised, or has minor cracking. Most cost-effective resurfacing option.
The top layer of old asphalt is milled (ground off) to a set depth, then fresh hotmix is laid to the original level. Ideal when surface is badly deteriorated but the base is good. Maintains existing levels — no raised edges to manage.
Complete removal of existing asphalt and basecourse, then full rebuild from the sub-grade up. Required when both surface and base have failed — evidenced by extensive cracking, rutting, or subsidence. This is a rebuild, not a resurface.
Not sure which approach is right? Here's a simple rule of thumb: if the base is solid and cracking is only in the top 25mm, resurface. If there are potholes, deep cracks, or the surface has sunk, you likely need at least partial reconstruction. We'll assess and advise honestly.
