Deck costs vary by size, material, height, and complexity. As a rough guide: a simple pine deck starts around $350–$500 per m², Kwila hardwood $500–$800 per m², and composite decking $600–$1,000+ per m². Decks under 1.5 metres in height generally don't need building consent, provided they meet Building Code requirements. Decks over 1.5m high or those attached to the house may need consent. We'll advise you upfront during quoting and can manage the consent process if needed. All our decks are built to code regardless of consent requirements.

Both have pros and cons. Hardwood timber (Kwila, Vitex) offers natural beauty and warmth — it's the traditional choice and generally more affordable upfront, but needs annual oiling. Composite decking costs more initially but requires almost no maintenance — no oiling, no sanding, no splinters. It won't fade or grey like timber. We're happy to show you samples of both so you can decide.

A standard residential deck (30–50m²) typically takes 1–2 weeks from start to finish. Larger or more complex decks with multiple levels, pergolas, or built-in features may take 2–4 weeks. We'll give you a clear timeline during quoting and keep you updated throughout the build.

Hardwood decks need oiling once or twice a year to maintain their colour and protect the timber. Treated pine decks should be stained or painted every 2–3 years. Composite decks need almost no maintenance — just an occasional wash with soapy water. We can include a maintenance guide specific to your deck material, or handle the maintenance for you.
