Paving costs vary by material and project size. As a general guide: concrete pavers start around $120–$180 per m² installed, natural stone $200–$400+ per m², and exposed aggregate $150–$250 per m². A properly installed paved driveway with correct base preparation can last 25–40+ years. The key factors are the sub-base depth and compaction, drainage design, and quality of the paving material. Concrete is poured as a single slab — it's cost-effective and strong, but can crack over time. Paving uses individual units (pavers, stones, tiles) laid on a compacted base — it's more flexible, can be lifted and re-laid if needed, and offers far more design options. Pavers are generally the better choice for driveways and patios in Auckland's conditions.

Most residential paving doesn't require consent. However, you may need consent if the paving affects stormwater runoff, is within a flood zone, or creates a new vehicle crossing onto the road. We'll advise you during quoting if consent might be needed. New vehicle crossings also require council approval.
